New Home Windows for Older Homes

Older homes often have wood framed windows built at a time when building standards were not as high. If you have an old house, you may or may not know how much heat loss occurs through the windows and doors of your home. It may be worse than you think.

A few homeowners try to do their own fix it yourself repairs on windows using putty and paint to seal glass panes, but while those might plug leaks from outside light, they don't really solve the heat loss problem. Window leaks where moisture enters can lead to rotting wooden frames and bug infestation and ice ups on the window sill and window panes. Old wood windows often have little air tightness and heat loss during cold winter days is significant. New windows are manufactured under exacting specifications in state of the art window manufacturing facilities. This allows the construction of custom windows for your home, and home windows built for energy efficiency.

New home windows are built with two or even three glass panes filled with argon gas. Using argon gas allows for less heat transfer through the window. The aluminum frame is sturdy and long lasting. The window won't warp or rot with moisture and heat extremes and some windows are rugged. For harsh, stormy conditions on the east coast, a sturdy, rugged and long lasting window that is energy efficient can help save a homeowner thousands of dollars. Having to replace windows every 6 to 8 years is expensive. If you're proud that your old winter storm windows seem to be good enough, you only need to have a home inspector do thermal imaging of your home on a cold day to let you see the enormous amounts of heat energy being lost through windows and doors.
