According to an article from deckmagazine.com, online review sites and the reviews they host are a controversial topic within the building and remodeling industries. While some would prefer to do away with these sites, most notably Angie’s List and Yelp, they don’t appear to be going away anytime soon.
Along with monitoring other social media sites, small businesses sometimes have to deal with fake reviews. These reviews can be positive (but are usually negative) and often are written by people who have never used the product or service. These reviews can influence your standings on a particular website; the algorithms that control the websites flag a company with lots of positive reviews and may label some of them fake.
Whether or not you decide to respond to online reviews is up to you. Just remember, the key to handling any online review is to not take it personally.
We monitor mentions about Harvey Building Products on the web, including our Yelp page for the Burlington, MA product showroom. If your customers have been to our showroom to see what’s available in a real life setting, we encourage them to write a review about their experience.
